Meldas 50M Cutter Comp

My friend has a Yang Eagle 600 with a Meldas 50M he says that it does not have cutter comp. On the offset page he can enter a value but it will not comp it.It will just run the code as if there were no cutter comp. Can this be turned on somewhere else in the control? What good is a CNC with no cutter comp?

What G code is he running? G41 is for left and G42 is for right. If it is not working maybe he needs to clear the memory on the control. There is no parameter that will turn off cutter comp that I know of.

He is using G41 this is what I use on my Meldas 520. Works fine on my machine but does nothing on his 50M. What do you mean by clearing out the memory?

Have him call Mitsubishi directly. They have a pretty good application guy over there. He can also talk with tech support for free about his problem. If he needs to clear the memory they should be able to walk him through it. Some times the memory becomes corrupt and needs to be cleared out but I would call them first and see what they say.

It might also be worth looking at the manner in which he is calling it in gcode. Some controls have different rules about 'when and where' cutter comp is called, and what interposed commands can inadvertantly turn it off.
