I am trying to do a groove out on our T2 control and everything I try gives me the same error. 533 illegal groove width. I set the tool width to .120 on the tool set page and the groove is just a parting off operation. using groove OUT start dia. 1.62, z start 2.0 end dia 0. and a z finish of 2.0, With an .120 wide cutoff tool. Not sure what i am doing wrong. I have No manual so any help would be great.
Ziggy,
Just found Your post..
Did You find a solution?
It sound like a setup problem, which toolholder # are You using ?.. try #1
Let me know , tomorrow I will copy the parting tool setup on mine if You are still in need.
If You had the manual, by now You would have been even more confused, and frustrated, the language used to write it is " Japanenglish" and the logic behind the explanations.....?? NONE !!! Who knows, it must be a cultural misunderstanding.. on My part.
I`m surprised that in more than a week nobody took the time to answer Your post, sorry I did not see it earlier.
Next time you need help with Your mazak, try also posting on the "http://www.cnczone.com/", there is a dedicated Mazak forum frequented by several fellas, very experienced with Mazatrol, I got a lot of help from them.
I've set up a 2mm grooving tool and gone to write a program using it to part off with 2mm width (just test parting to made sure its on center and play with some speeds and feeds on 4140) only to cop the 533 error. - I have all the manuals but they don't really help at all.
If i change the tool data to my 3mm groove tool (all other settings are exactly the same as the 2mm tool, same position and all) and the groove width to 3mm I don't get the error.
The TOOL FILE needs to be set up properly. Below is a T2 Tool File print out. Look at File Number 40 to set a .125 wide OD groove tool. Match the FNO with TNO in the TOOL SET page so it reads the right data. The easiest way to do the TOOL FILE on a T2 is to make the Tool number and File number the same TNO-FNO. If you don't set this up the grooving will never work correctly.
