Mastercam X4 to RS232 Haas Mill

Our shop finally got around to getting the machines wired to a computer instead of using the floppy drive. Here's the problem I have tried everything and cannot get Mastercam to send the posted file to the machine. I always post it to the editor first and the want to send the file to the machine from there. I configured the communications to the same as the mill and select send file. Nothing happens. I however an able to send and receive just fine with a standard windows terminal app. This assures me that the cabling is fine. It also appears to hold the serial port open after trying to send a file. this requires a restart to fix the problem. I really don't want to open another program to send it to the machine. Any ideas?

If you're using the Mastercam editor you may want to try something else... I've had trouble with it in the past.

Take a look in your computer C:\MCAMX\COMMON\EDITORS\CIMCOEDIT5

Cimco was included when you installed Mastercam. The communications in Cimco should work for you.

    Setting a different Editor

At the top of the screen under Settings go to Configuration, then Start Exit.
In Start Exit you can change the editor that you want to post into. Choose Cimco. This way it posts into Cimco then you can send it to your machine.

    RS 232 Wires

Are you sure you have a good pin out and connection with the wire. A RS-232 tester is handy for this. With the HAAS I usually use 3 config.
    9 pin side 2|3|5 [Computer]
    25 pin side 2|3|7 [Machine]
    9 side 2 and 3 go to 25 side 2 and 3
    9 side 5 goes to 25 side 7

on the 25 side jump 6,8, and 20 all together
also on the 25 pin side loop 4 and 5

This configuration work every time for me.

    9600 even, 7, 2

Let me know if this helps...

I am using a moxi ethernet to rs232. I will double check the wiring but I figure if it was the wiring nothing would work. Xmodem works great but Cimco edit dosent support it.
