So far I have run Mastercam X4 Lathe (No Solids) in Windows 7 Ultimate with no problems. It seems to run smooth with the 4GB of RAM I have in my laptop. The only issue I have had is that do not have a good enough graphics card to use the verify function however, I can use my backplot with no problems.Since I don't have a good enough graphics card in my laptop I had to run Mastercam in a 256 colors mode but it worked just fine.So to sum it up Mastercam X4 runs fine but if you use a laptop be sure to build one or buy one with a high end graphics card.

I'm NOT using WIN 7, but if you are, and having problems, you should be able to make it work using the XP mode in WIN 7. From all I have gathered this is different and better than the previous "Compatibility" mode offered

it runs fine in xp mode with the same issues with the graphics. My issue is that i have a low end graphics card on my laptop so it doesnt run as well as i would like. Its ok though I am due to upgrade my laptop anyway.I can do backplots just fine which is a good thing at least. But Mastercam requires a decent graphics card to run the solids and verify functions.

I loaded X4 on a borrowed Win 7 laptop (a $500 Gateway, straight 7, not an upgrade) and it seemed to run just fine.

I can't get the graphics to work on ver 9.1 though.

I have been testing X4 on two boxs running Win 7, one box running 32bit and the other running 64 bit. graphics are working with no issues.
One use's a Gforce 8800 GTX and the other is running a Quadro FX 1700.
So far I am moving over allot of my boxs to Win 7 sense I have been testing sense beta.

Littlebrewman, Solids works well I have done some Lathe and Mill need to do some Are see how it handles it.now updateing them to X4 MU1.

Will let you folks know if I have issues.

it works

i finally had a chance to sit down and work with the settings on my laptop.I had to run X4 in XP mode to get everything to work correctly but runs so much smoother in windows 7 than it ever did on an older machine with just XP.I am hoping to upgrade my ram from 2GB to 4 Gb soon. That should make x4 fly while using this dual core processor.I Love This new Windows 7 and in combination with MCam its a real winner in my book.

Do a little homework, but I think I have heard that the dual core processors would only use 3Gb Ram max..... any extra is not used at all and is disregarded.
The new i7 processors would use it all
This is when running XP, Win7 may use the dual cores differently now

When i had them put windows 7 on my laptop since it was part of the promo for buying the software, I was told that my laptop could benefit from the dual core and 4 GB of ram running windows 7. You are correct some laptops can't handle too much Ram. So if anybody else is going to upgrade to windows 7 be aware that Mcam is not supporting it yet officially.

Fizzissist,

If you're having trouble with graphics in Ver 9.1, try the Screen-Configure Screen Tab 'Enable OpenGL(R) drawing' toggle and/or turning down the graphics acceleration a notch or two.

os:
32bit supports 4gig but can use more true pae as unmanaged memory (limited by motherboard chipset ex: intel945 and under are unable to access unmanaged memory)
64bit support memory over 4gig

chipset:
32bit:
type1:able to access memory address up to 4gig but must reserve space for hardware in its memory range ex: gpu memory etc... and cant access unmanaged memory
type2:able to access memory address up to 4gig but must reserve space for device in its memory range ex: gpu memory etc... and can access unmanaged memory (specialy usefull to set a ramdisk as normaly some of the memory would be unused for device memory space)
64bit:
for as much as i know will support more then enough memory for the current software available (most of the current software are unable to use more then 2gig of memory

cpu:
all 64bit cpu will support 64 bit memory address

a typical case of bad computer component choice is the xps m1710, why well first intel 945 chipset wich only support 4gig of addresable memory wich mean the laptop will only use 3.25gig of the 4gig of mem available but since its a 945 chipset the 750mb of unaddressed memory caant be used for thing like temp folder but stupidly enough they slapped a intel C2D t7200 wich support emt64 so that mean you can use 64bit os but cant really take advantage of it
