Custom Lathe Tools

I drew up a custom 45 deg grooving tool and brought it in to my mcx file. The problem seems to be that MC dosn't know how wide the insert is.
We are running X10 MR2.

did you draw the custom tool in MCX? Is your insert a differnet color than the holder? Use color #138 for the insert and #116 for the holder.

If you are still haveing problems post you file so I can see it.

It was drawn in mcx. The holder was the right color but I had to change the insert color. I tried to attach the file but I'm doing something wrong. Maybe it's here and I can't see it.

as CAD01 states, It does matter what colors you use, they also have to from a closed contour and only be lines and arcs----double entities and splines not permitted

There is contention about colors but basically
Red = holder
Yellow= tip on the top
Orange= tip underneath ( Opposite handed tool )
your 1st post says the holder came in - tip didn't. Fault may lie with your drawing of the tip

you were very close. You must close off the holder seperate from the insert/tip. I usually offset to the inside of the insert so It is easier to verify that I closed it off. see the attached picture and good luck. Let me know if you are still having problems.

I updated my tool and brought it mack into the mcx file but I'm getting the same result. Somehow MC dosn't know how wide the tool is and it cuts the groove like the tool is only a point.

I ended up using a standerd grooving insert from the Mastercam tool collection then turning it -45 deg and it worked fine.
