Hi guys, I'm trying to use DNC with Mastercam. Right now, I can create my gcode file and then send it to the machine, but it doesn't work if the file larger than the memory I have on the CNC machine. How do I select the block size or tell mastercam to send only part of the file? If I'm way off base just a quick point to tell me where to read and I'll investigate. Thanks Brian |

| Typically, normal operation is, you send the whole file to the machine, for the machine then to activate or load into it's own run area. The machine has a maximum file size it can acually load into this run area. You can have multiple files in the machine's memory, but quite often, a file that just fits into memory may not be loaded into the run area. Quite often the file must end with a program rewind ( M2 or M30 ), and if not present, the machine will alarm and not run the file at all. you can break the file up smaller, but each file should end with a program rewind ( M2 or M30 ). DNC operation is, the whole file stays in the PC and is linked to the machine by the DNC software through a cable, the machine manages this link as to when to send the next line of code, if you disconnect the cable, the link is broken and the machine will stop at the end of the last line of code it received. |

| I am not sure..But are you just trying to use Mastercam to send a file to your machine? If so the file you are sending is too big? I haven't used Mastercam to send a file, but if you got that figured out but the code is too much for your machine to save... Maybe you could "Ghost" some operations and try uploading the file then. I just wonder if it will not send the "Ghosted" operations. If that would work, you could use "Ghost" feature to send chunks at a time. If sending a file uses the same process as "Posting" code it might work for you. | Thanks for the replies. Just to clarify, I can send files from Mastercam, and that works. It's just when the file is too large, mastercam sends tries to send the whole file, it get's to say 75% or whenever the Hass runs out of room and errors. I will try the DNC as I was just sending the file. Thanks for the replies! Brian |

On a Hass if you hit the MDI button twice you will be in DNC mode and it will tell you its ready to receive code. Then send code from the PC. It will fill the buffer then Machine will tell PC to stop sending code(DNC XonXoff) It will continue to do this until code is ran. If you try to send the program to the memory it will fill it up and machine will error out because you have no more storage space in your memory if your program is too big. John |
