If you really want to know which is best here's what you do...

1. Choose your most challenging part.

2. Do not share this part with either dealer in advance.

3. Create a sequence of operations of exactly how you want to machine the part.

4. Invite both dealers to come for a demo at your shop (on separate days) and watch each one program your part completely according to your chosen sequence. Even if you don't understand everything they do you should get a great idea of which system will work out best for you...

5. After you are satisfied with the demonstration of your part invite the dealer to do his/her usual "canned" demonstration with their usual demo parts to show off all the finer points of the system...

Agree... to a point... your chosen sequence might not be the most efficient but Featurecam will usually fail in a demo like this because featurecam likes to program parts the way Featurecam wants to program it, not the user. If you're looking for tool control Mastercam has better tool control, for sure.

We used Mastercam for years but switched to ESPRIT actually. If tool control is a hot topic for you, you should check em out.

I agree with surfsup..

We have an older seat of featurecam and up to date mastercam. I don't use the featurecam seat at all but what I see from the use of it...

1. Featurecam can spit you out a program very fast, but not much for user interface.

2. Mastercam may take time, but normally more efficient.

When time is money on the machine, would you rather invest the time on the computer or the time running the spindle??

What I mean is that it may take a little more time behind the computer to program in mastercam, but the program will run more efficient at the machine.

If you want less time on a computer use featurecam, but the program will run till the cows come home. Alot of extra moves, retracts air cutting etc.

My experience.

LOL, I'll make this easy for you. It's the one you like the most. Only you know the answer for this question. Mainly your answer depends on your experience and what your going to be using the software for.

So what are you expecting of these two Software's???

Cheers!!!

I disagree. How do you know something until you've been educated on it?

How do you get educated without looking for answers?

We would have never even stopped to look at ESPRIT if we didn't one day realize we couldn't get what we needed out of Mastercam. The switch to ESPRIT was huge for our company and we have increased our CNC capacity 8-fold since. I'm sure our owners are pretty happy about the switch and the switch happened because we asked questions and learned a new product that we didn't know before-hand.
