| You need to imagine a right triangle wrapped around a cylinder. The base of the triangle is equal to the circumference. The helix itself follows the hypotenuse of the triangle. So the third side of the triangle (the height) represents the pitch of the helix, or the distance along the axis wherein the helix makes exactly one revolution. Tan 5°= H/B so B(TAN 5°) = H, the pitch 2 * 0.865 * Pi * TAN 5° = H Now if that looks completely wrong then try TAN 85° One or the other should be the right way to look at it. One guy's 5 degrees is the next man's 85 degrees
