I'm having trouble turning this geometry into a surface.

Hi I am attaching a picture of propeller geometry that i imported from a 3d modeling program. I want to turn this into a surface so I can machine it, or if there is any other way to machine it without turning it into a surface that would work as well.

I have tried creating surfaces by trying all the surface types and windowing all the geometry, but it doesn't turn out nice.

I would greatly appreciate any help in getting a toolpath or surface on this geometry.

Buy me a Beer?

I suggest using a STEP file to bring the prop into mastercam from your modelling software

The STEP will bring the curvature in without the facetting that IGES has.

my modeling software cannot convert to a STEP file. I am using wings 3d. Any file converters you know of.

Just had a look at the formats that Wings supports, no real common format between the 2.

You could posibly look/ask on E-mastercam for someone to comvert, they could have a prop on their website

another option is to use a demo version of Solidworks to convert into surfaces, but it would be easier if someone did it for you. If you go this way, tighten your resolution up to get better curvature.

OK, I do have solid works so I should be fine. And I do have a higher res one. I just was experimenting with a lower res one so I dont have to wait ages for my computer to render. But Thanks! I will let you know if I have any questions.

Jbrown,
There is a training video for x surfaces at
http://cad2cam.net/mastercamx_basic_surface%20.html
This may be of help if you have the wireframe to the propeller.
I will also do custom videos if you need this. What format is this in? is it a solid?
Let me know if I can Help.
Steve
