I have received a casting drawing from my Customer. I saved a copy of the original file as a .STL file so that I could use it as a “stock” file for the tool path verification. However the .stl file is 65Mb and takes about 5 minutes to load. I am running Mastercam X3 MU1 on a dual core PC with 2GB Ram. It is insane to have to wait in excess of 5 minutes to see the tool path verification. What would you recommend? AJ |

Seeing that you are only using it as a stock model On the original model, alter your settings to save the STL more coarse A tolerance value of 0.05mm gives very small facet surfaces. Try opening it up to say 0.20 or even more. You can merge the STL into the session to check accuracy, if required. On a Mcam SaveAs, the setting is in "System Config". If saving after verify, set the tolerance in "verify Options" before running verify. BTW: welcome to the forum Last edited by Superman; 04-01-2009 at 03:07 AM. Reason: Welcome |

Setting the .stl tolerance to 1.000 seems to work, but it takes a long time to load. I'll experiment a little more, but I may need a faster computer. Do you know what the recommendations are for running 26+Mb .stl files as "stock" files in Mastercam? Thanks for you help - much appreciated. Alan Vancouver, Canada |
