creating a dome in x2?

Ok I have a square block that I want to create a shallow dome on top of this block. In x2 I was able to create a sphere in the block but I can't figure out how to change the height of the sphere. I also noticed all the cool video tutorials are gone can anyone point me to some freebie tutorials?

Probably, the easiest method is to revolve a curve around a line ( axis )
this will give a surface, make sure that it extends further into or past your block to enable trimming surface to curve ( or surface to surface ),

Start off in the front or side view, and create a half section of an umbrella,
the arc is the item to revolve, the stem is the revolving axis.

You could also just draw the portion of the arc you need to machine and then do a Toolpath - Wireframe - Revolved. This actually might work in Mill level 1 (possible level 2). It's quick and easy. No need to create a surface.

The Wireframe toolpaths are the most overlooked and also the most useful for basic 3D shapes.

There is too many options to create the ideal toolpath

Size of block ?
How much rise of dome over the block ?
Material and stock amount ?
Machine specifics ( # of axes, memory size, available machining power, tooling, etc )

IMO
3 axis machine with low doming ( high dome - 1st, rough by "surface contour rough" spiral CW keeping tool on the part, also use rampl )
note! I'm using the basic Mcam strategies, there are others in HSM which are better, if you are familiar with them.

2 operations for roughing
rough the dome
"surface rough project" ( lines created above the part, from outside the block going to the high point of dome in a radial fashion )
rough the block
"2D contour" around the block perimeter ( depth cuts if required )

2 operations for finishing
finish the dome
"surface finish scallop" ( spiral path from outside the block going to the high point of dome )
finish the block
"2D contour" around the block perimeter ( depth cuts if required )

Contour ???

Are you wanting to do a 2D operation on a 3D feature ?

If you want to do Z level machining on a 3D feature, a 3D operation would be your choice, using only 3-axis

A 20" radius dome that has say 1/4" between highest to lowest level would need very shallow DOC using a "surface contour" strategy.

What strategy are you trying to use ?
Can you attach for others to suggest better methods ?
