MasterCam Version 9 Have been trying to fillet the edges of the attached part and can only get it complete to the shown stage. Using surface/surface fillet with trim surfaces enabled, but the upper flat surface does not trim. Could not get the 2 surfaces to fillet in a single operation and had to use pick a pair and work my way around the contoured part to obtain the shown result. Also have been trying to surface/surface trim the 2 protruding surfaces at the part pointed end but no success there either. Then tried surfacing the part as drawn but I keep getting a "self intersecting" message. Followed the prompts to change color of the intersection but never see it show up on the drawing. Would really appreciate someone taking a look and give me some guidance as to what I am missing and doing wrong. Feel like I am close but just can't get over the hump. TIA, cem |

| Checked your file Problem area is in the 2 tight rad " fingers" Turn on shading , you can see the swept radius fillets have "top hats" ( these are the self-intersecting surfaces ) Remedy Extrude your profile , before filleting the top face edges ( you may have problems filleting this particular area due to the actual geometry ) Extruding will give you a solid block, as a starting point |

| Extruding and then filleting the solid worked like a charm. See attached. Can you suggest a strategy for surfacing this. I get to a point in solid surfacing where I am asked to select a drive surface but can find nothing that will highlight and select. My first attempt at surfacing a solid. Thanks, cem |

| As a beginner, create surfaces from solid 1- change color and level 2- <create><surfaces><next menu><from solid> ( solids=Y faces=N ) select the solid <done> 3- turn off level 1 4- select the surfaces now created that make up the filleting part for the surfacing op BTW should you be using a Radius form tool (RAD MILL) for this operation ? |
