Rigid Tapping

How do I set up and Tap a hole with Mastercam X3? New to mastercam. I am using a 2000 Haas VFOE if that matters at all.

Toolpath - Drill- Then on the Drilling page, select Tap for the canned cycle.

Make sure your machine has the option for Rigid tap. I think on the VFO this an option.

DNC

Another question. I have set up a laptop with DNC Precision. Got a USB to serial connector from black box. Set up the settings in the Haas Mill for parity, stop, baud, etc... to match the software.

The software starts and acts like it is trying to send, but the Haas just sits in "waiting for DNC mode" and doesn't act like it is receiving anything.

Any ideas to troubleshoot?

scott

1st rule of tracing RS232 problems....

Always send data from the machine to the PC.

If your sending data "To" the machine, you might be sending bad data. Sometimes thats the problem.

If the data is already in your control, It's already acceptable data to the control. So now the problem is getting it to send out. Once you can send it out. You delete the program in the control and try to send it back (now you know this is good, acceptable data).

Right now, you dont know if it's a bad RS232 port, bad cable, or bad data in your NC program.

What is your cable pin configuration?
