general selection in X3

1.normally in X3, when I want to select some geometry, it highlights when I click on it. However, it seems to me that after working a while, that sometimes stops happening, and I no longer get anything highlighted. I am sure I am not in the middle of another operation, by hitting "escape" multiple times. For example, I want to delete some items, I want to select them first, then hit "delete". If they don't highlight, I don't know if I have selected them or not. I am always in the "standard selection mode" not the "solids selection mode". I have read the selection help about 20 times, and it doesn't seem to apply to what I am seeing.
2. If I am having the above selection troubles, and I save and exit the part, and then re-open it, the selection is then working normally, that is highlighting the selected geometry.
3.. when I want to move some geometry to another level, how to I select an entire chain to move? I can't seem to select it at all.
thanks

I've had the same symptoms (1 & 2) under MC X. I do the same thing (exit and relaunch). No clue why it does that. It actually gets some other flaky behavior around the same time.

My only 'blanket' guess is that the program starts having problems with how it allocates and addresses memory or something like that. It's never a problem with the model, just the session.

This is a registered bug, in the first release of X3, it may have been fixed in the recent maintenance release, ( I haven't installed it yet) the short term fix is to hit regenerate display list, that's the icon that looks like the repaint paintbrush next to clear colors

problem resolved

Thanks to all who replied, I am glad to learn that I am not just mixed up on this, but it is a bug. The regenerate display does seem to clear up my problem, and so far upgrading to MU1 seems to be a fix.
Problem resolved.

Try holding SHIFT when you click on an entity in the chain you want to select. This will select the complete chain. If you need to select a partial chain you can continue to hold the SHIFT key and then select the desired "last" entity in the now highlighted chain. The selected chain now becomes a partial chain.

You have no idea how much I learned from that video. A thousand times: thank you! Even though I'm using X, it was close enough that I stopped the video a couple of times just to try it out in the software. I had a bunch of 'aha' moments.

Those skills could have saved me a bunch of trouble. You should have seen me trying to select all of the holes in the wooden collet rack I built earlier this year.

Ya' know, Jay, I never sign up for stuff like that, though I should. I always argue that if I just sat down and spent the commute time in front of the program, reading the flippin' manual, I'd learn everything I need. Then of course, I never spend that time reading the manual.

I also find that I learn a lot more from little snippets over time, than if I sit in a class. It's a problem of sipping from the fire-hose. I stopped this short video 4-5 times so I could jump over to the program to try things out. I got 100% learning from that lesson instead of the fraction I'd hang onto in a classroom setting.

Are you involved in the upcoming MC demo/sales thing in Santa Clarita? I just got the letter in the mail today. It's not likely that I'll be back on maintenance right now so I probably won't make it, but I thought of you when I saw it.
