I need to make plastic handles out of a 1.5" diameter plastic rod. I plan on cutting the rod down to the length I need and inserting into a collet holder which will go into the spindle of the HAAS VF2 machine. I plan on taking a lathe cutting tool and mounting that in my vice. My problem I have is in Mastercam X, how do I let it know that the tool is solid mounted and the part will be moving in the Z axis and the cutting tool will only be moving in the X axis? I have tried changing WCS, and T/C Planes, but I do not have much experience changing these attributes in Mastercam, and for some reason when I do, I cannot seem to generate a toolpath. I have added the original drawing for your viewing pleasure, so hopefully you will understand better what I am trying to do, I will precut the rods to length and I will turn down in a lathe a .75 X 1.0 knob to mount in the collet. Any suggestions would be greatly apreciated, thanks. |

Thanks for the replies. No we do not have a cnc lathe, just standard lathes. I have tried doing this project on them but it is to difficult and hard to repeat. I do have a IGES file available for this project, it is attached. Thanks. |

| Here is my try at it. I am still new at MC, it keeps posting to the G17 X,Y plane, can't get it to switch to G18. The top face of the lathe tool would be the end face of the 1/16" end mill shown. The part in the spindle would be rotating forward. |
