r u sure u used translation option not mirror or rotate ???????
HI
I am trying to learn how to translate toolpaths.
When I translate a toolpath and check the box to "create geometry and toolpaths" the translated toolpath geometry chains are reversed and the compensation is also changed from left to right.
If I translate the toolpaths without saving the geometry and toolpaths it does it correctly, but it only creates one operation.
I would like to have seperate operations, instead of one op with all the transformed toolpaths, so I need to "create geometry and toolpaths".
My question is, how do I translate the toolpaths and create geometry and toolpaths and have the geometry chained in the correct direction?
Thanks,
Carol

Hi Nabil,
Yes, I did use the translation option. I created a rectangle, then I created a toolpath and chained around the rectangle clockwise with cutter comp on the left (climb cutting). I then went to toolpaths ~ transform ~ translate and checked the box to create geometry and toolpaths ~ X 1.5 Y 2.0 X 4 Y2. When I run the toolpaths on the translated operations it is chained in the reverse (counterclockwise) direction and cutter comp is now on the right.
Hi Tim,
I did select the translate radio button, but when I check the box to create toolpaths and geometry it reverses the chaining of the translated operations every time.
I checked the NC code and compensation was posted as a G41 for the original geometry and a G42 for the translated geometry, just like the toolpaths backplotted in the graphics window.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Here is a MC9 file with a really simple example for you.
It plots and posts correctly.
MasterCam since V6.12a. Gcode since 1983.

Dave,
Thank you for sending the program sample. That is exactly what I have done.
I think there must be something wrong with my educational version of the software.
It's no big deal, I do drafting and I was just learning this to further my education.
Thanks for all your help.

Carolis this at your school that you are doing this?
Also what version of V9 are you running.
Is it just V9 or say V9.1 or even V9.1mr0105? this can make a difference.

Hi cadcam,
No, I was given a home study book by Drs. SC Jonathon Lin and FC Tony Shiue.
I was just interested in learning about the cam side of cad. As I was going through the chapters in the book, I got to the translate toolpath section and when I tried it, it reversed the chains on the translated toolpaths (not the source toolpath).
I am using version 9.
Thanks,
Carol
you need to upgrade past V9.0 as there were some issues with Transform on V9.0 release at least get to 9.1SP1

cadcam,
Thank you for the information about V9. Now I know what the problem was.
