Is it possible to setup a tool with mastercam for a certain DOC. I always have to use the depth cuts feature and was wondering in you can set the z cut depth automatically when you choose that tool. Otherwise, MC will plunge to the set depth rather than take smaller depth cuts. |

| That is the heart of the issue. If i go under tool manager, and play with the tool settings under parameters and set the tool rough xy(%) to something like 20% or 30% or it doesnt matter what percent, nothing seems to be changed when I run the "Verify Selected Operations" and when I output the g-code, the same thing happens. For instance, if I say I need a pocket cut 1/2in deep, the very first operation will sink the tool all the way down to 1/2in. Needless to say, this will not work on my machine. |

| in op manager there is properties , click tool setting there is a box use tools step, peck, and coolant this will allow what ever you save to the tool (depth cuts) it will use the tool values you save in depth cuts on all toolpaths. Hope this helps Steve www.cad2cam.net

| Is it possible that you're saving the tool to one library, then mistakenly using the seemingly same tool from a different library? Tools from different libraries can have the exact same name, so it'd be an easy mistake to make. If this might be the case, maybe name the tool you want to use as "1/2" 3 flute endmill DOC .250". |

| Hey Steve, I found what you are talking about under my machines properties, and under tool settings. Yet when I checked the box for use tool's step, peck, coolant, it would still not use the tools settings. Any other suggestions? Thank you |

| in the parameter page where you select the pocket depth there is a tab labeled DEPTH CUTS. check the box and set your maximum depth of cut in the first box,you can select your finish cut in the second box. this will prevent your endmill from taking 100 percent plunge to the depth of your pocket. cheers
