Well, that depends...Does MC9 do what you require it to do?
I tend not to upgrade until the requirement exists. The way that I make the decision is that if the new version makes my life easier, and the interface is well designed, then I consider upgrading. So called upgrading for the sake of upgrading is a waste of money IMO. Some businesses must do it in order to be able to read customers file formats, and to speed up the process, in order to stay in business.

regards

I agree with cam1, but I made the switch and in x2 programming is faster. I would never go back. X2 has new toolpath that works very well that v9 did not have. It all depends on what you need.

Most Parts are designed in RHINO and toolpaths put down in MC9

Most of the parts are 3d solids or wireframes

most have complex surfacing ...

Thanks

Some Rhino files are not compatible with mastercam and most solid modelers out there. I have found rhino surfaces to be great in Rhino but not when translated.

Most people hate X when they upgrade and after a couple of months, would never go back. The best improvement for complex surfaces are the highspeed toolpaths. You can pick your geometry once and make it a surface rough, copy the op and then make it a surface contour cut, copy it again and do a parallel to get the shallow areas, copy it again and tell it to get all the flat surfaces. This has really helped my work flow.

I would upgrade from V9 to X3 in about a month. But if you upgrade now you will get X3 with it.
