    Mastercam X vs Mastercam X2

Hi all. I'm not a Mastercam user (yet) but would like to learn. I was at Borders Books last night and found a book on Matsercam X. I know X2 is newer but I was wondering what basic differences between them are. Are the user interfaces the same and X2 just have added features or is the X2 interface different than X?

Any info would help. The book is not expensive but don't want to buy it if is so old that it has no learning value that could be used with Mastercam X2.

    Thanks.

Mastercam X2 does have some differences from Mastercam X. For the most part I would think the book would still be useful as anything that goes over the main scope will still generally apply.

Now if you were looking at V9 book it would not apply to the Mastercam X or x2 system X and X2 are very different from the V9 system.

There are some good books out there for V9, X, and X2 and you may want to contat your local Mastercam reseller to see what might work best for you.

Mastercam x and x2 are the same interface . Mastercam x2 just has new options available. Look around and find the right book. People in this forum and other forums will give you great places to look just like cadcam did.

As long as the book is cheap, get it. I'm sure it will be useful.

    Learning

I was told by a reliable source not to waste my money on local school Training in my Area, for training & this is my reason for going this route. I Am teaching myself with book's, ( MCX2, Vol 1, 2 & 3 by Charles Davis, & a few more good ones by other sources ), Video Tutorials by Mike Mattera, & Streaming Teacher for MCX2. With the Streaming Teacher you get a demo so you don't need a " bootleg copy " to practice with. also with my part time job I get 3 -4 hrs a day seat time & after about 16 months ,have been coming along just fine. m2c Harold

I agree to an extent. There are so many things that the tutorials do not cover (this has to be so that they can get you to pay for training). BUT: my school does not teach solidworks, they teach inventor (for mechanical CAD) and Orcad (which is good, if you can get a copy of the real thing not the demo or the education version) for electrical schematics.

So I guess I am torn between self teaching and classes. The classes have high knowledge/time density while the self taught stuff generally (for me at least) sticks better. In the end it is using the program that gets you good at it though.
