engraving

hi!

Looking for good book about matercamx. I have to engrave few letters on 1"dia. cylinder, depth has to be the same in every point. Is there any smart book with explanation how to do it?? thank U for any clue. Job must be done on Matsuuras 1000V, one with c-axis, second without.

Using mastercam9 I used surface project,create the surface, then create engraving above your surface and project it on that surace. hope this helps.

thx for an answer JY'S, I saw that once but I was rather looking for something like Partmaker has. There is special option to engrave text on the cylinder. Think about surface as the sheet of paper wrapped around cylinder. You can unwrapp it and type whatever You want, the same way like for example in MS Word, including font changing and size of it. Of course You have to define it as a milling operation but it is very easy and save a lot of time, but works only in lathe with 4th axis. Your way is the best in machines without c-axis, I guess. One more question, do You know some good book for mastercamX? I don't want to spend money and buy something useless or buy 5-10 books instead of find one, the good one. Thank You for Your help

If you are asking about the books, yes I have, but the problem is Index or one chapter doesn't say much about the books f.ex. I have books about cnc programming and I'm able to tell U which one is good: simple language, a lot of knowledge, which one is handy but not for newbies and bla bla bla.. I thought somebody who uses certain book would be able to help me with that engraving problem. I don't want to spend money just to be sure then books I just bought are useless for me.
