post that file with the path. need to see more then just a side profile.
I cannot figure out how to get this setting changed. Looking at the picture, you can see I need more actual cutting path and less rapid /retract ('yellow') - not sure of the actual movement name in yellow.
I though add "cut extension" would do it - but makes no difference. I think this must be one of those things where its looking at something to calculate the retract - but I've changed every setting possible with no luck.
It must be a combination of settings that I need ?

Try blend here is a sample I did for someone on cnczone http://www.cad2cam.net/blend1/blend1.html
you can change the cut direction so it cuts the way you have it set. The key is to have two boundries( and they dont need to be closed) to stay between with the cutter.
This cut will cut the whole surface without extending the cut. I have another sample at www.cad2cam.blogspot.com hope this helps.

The two bounderys can be 3d curves from the sides of the surface if you like.
Also as stated you do not want closed boundrys but control curves.

Blend is a favorite of mine you can send me the part if you have a chance I will take a look to see the best way to use the curves.

I see what you are saying - I use the Blend frequently also. But in this case, I am forcing a Parallel cut across the body - using the containment as the boundary. I'm using this to get rings cut -.010 into the body. I don't want it to blend - just give me .050 stepover at 90 degrees - so I end up with evenly spaced rings.
My path gives me what I want - its just the tool starts cutting while its approaching - and retracting at a faster speed that the feedrate. It only shows the cutting area as being below the actual surface - instead of including the entire 90 degree side walls. So its like plunging down through one side and rapiding off the other side while its still cutting material. I guess this hard to explain.
I thought there might be a setting that extended the actual cutting path or shortened the approach / retract rate.
I guess for now, I'll just slow down the retract / rapid rates so it will cut as needed...
Thanks for your help guys - you are awesome for giving people help and sharing your expertise.
have you tryed using the Direction controls. this will start the tool away from the surface and move into the cut as a lead in lead out?

cadcam -Bingo! That was exactly what I was looking for. Never thought to look under the "Direction" option - go figure..
Thanks many!
