Mastercam overlay

Is it possible to overlay one drawing with another drawing in mastercam,to check the fit between the two of them. And if so how do I do it.

Hi Bob,

What version of Mastercam ?

In older versions (9 & earlier) you would want to merge the 2 files and keep the geometry on separate levels and compare manually...

In newer versions (X & later I think...) there is a feature called "change recognition". It does exactly what you are looking for and more... It actually helps you update existing toolpaths for the revised part, etc...

Which version of X as this option came in later in X's life.

Copy All Entities to a new Layer. Merge the new part into the existing part. Now you can turn on/off layers to see if they look different.

you can also use .stl files I believe, to compare machining operations when you are verifying.

I kind of got the feeling he was using 2d "drawings".

I was using 2d drawings. I just needed to make sure the top of one and the bottom of another part matched each other. The merge files worked perfact.
