horzontal programming

So what's best way to program the B axis...from center of pallet? shop wants to try and implement this into all parts... Seems like not a bad way to go with positive offsets ,my understanding is all you would need is one work offset (ie G54) for a multisided part. Does anyone have any examples of how to program this way? , Is there anywhere I could find out how to do this, the books doesn't seem very informative.

Well I suggest you go look over in the emastercam forum there are tons of examples on the FTP and one of the best ways to program in Mastercam and a Horizontal machine IMHO. I have seen in done different ways and this way is the simplest, fastest, and best way to make accurate multiaixs parts on these type of machines. Another advantage to this method is the use of a pre-setter and if you get the right one that will communicate with the machine then you can save tons of time when loading and unloading tools.

X and Z at the pallet center and Y at the bottom of the pallet.

You need a work zero for each side of the piece.

What make is it? Mori,Mitsui?

That's what they're lookiing to get away from...In theory programming in mastercam from center of pallet with the g53 cordinate in place and positive TLO's it should know where everything is on a multisided part...

I understand that but you need one work zero for each side if you have a three sided part mounted on a cube.If you have a single part mounted at the center of the pallet it might work using only G54..

We already do that...according to mastercam guy , if we go from center of pallet...it reacts as if the part is center therefore according to him only one work offset is needed.

That might work in theory but it's not very practical. It means that you can only run 1 part/pallet unless you use G52.
We have the External offset (00) or(P0)where you want G54.And all work zeros are measured from there.

Buy me a Beer?

you can use a single w/s and use g52 with a macro to calculate the x and z distance from the center of rotation , therefore the part doesn t need to be sitting on the center of the pallet

Why do they want to use only one work zero ?
I use 48 work zeros on one job.Works like a charm.
But that's for 24 parts on one pallet.
