3D machining

Hi

I was wondering if someone could help me. I am working on machining the cavity in the attached file(I've changed the extension to txt instead of MCX to allow me to upload it). The problem is, I've never done any work in 3D before, only 2.5D.

I am having a few problems programming the file. Can anyone advise me as to what machining stratergy to use. I am currently using parallel rough and finish but I see strange 'events at either end of the cavity.

Any help would be greatfully received.

Cheers

Dave

What's wrong with a MCX file? Can't help if you don't post a proper file format.

Because MCX is not a valid file type for this forum - i.e. this means you cannot upload a file with an MCX extension!

If you rename the file from
PINIONSCUTMM.txt
to
PINIONSCUTMM.mcx
it will work fine.

I think you can post it on here an mcx file. If not zip it and than post it. I will gladly help you. Just get the file here and I will take a look at it.

The file is here and it works.

Download the file in post #1 of this thread, manually change the extension to .mcx(rename), and open with Mastercam.

I have been meaning to help out with this one but haven't had the time yet.

Forum won't let me upload mcx files so for those having trouble with the file above, here is a zipped copy.

Also, a question. When undertaking the profiling of the cavity, the shape is produced in a series of G01's even though the shape it is following is a curve. Is there anyway to force it to produce curves as this would signifcantly reduce my program size.

This is done with the filtering tolerance within the toolpath parameters.

Ah ha - cheers Matt - that's helped reduce the file size- is there a reason why it doesn't prodcue G02/G03s in the YZ plane?

Glad to help.

I don't get to the UK very often so you'll have to bring the beer over here.
