Mastercam and Windows Vista

Is anyone out there succesfully running V9 on Vista?

It installed with no problems but it just wont respond.

Does MCX work with Vista? do you just have to update it or what. I do not have a current maintenece subscription, so that may be a problem

X2-MR1 is the first release to support Vista and is the newest release at the moment.

The X2-MR2 release should be VERY soon.

I have been VERY successful in doing the following, to run this, and other applications on Vista.

Are any of you aware of VMware? It is a piece of software, that will let you run a "virtual" Operating system, on TOP of the OS you have. I have version 6.0 for Vista, and I am running windows XP under it.

In there, I installed Mastercam X2 (and also have v9) and they both worked without a problem.

Might be a way to go, without having mr1.

I'm sorry. Something seems wrong here. So your not really running MCam on Vista. Your running it on Win XP. So why not just run XP? Seems like a lot of fudging around just to get it to work on Vista. Plus the extra software you have to buy, the time to install it and configure it.

It's kind of like saying "I just bought this new sports car, but it only runs good under 45 mph".

Mastercam and Vista

I guess the bottom line is that you get to keep all your unsupported apps.
that ran O.K. on windows XP. Thats good.

But Mike Mattera makes a great point:

( "I'm sorry. Something seems wrong here. So your not really running MCam on Vista. Your running it on Win XP. So why not just run XP? Seems like a lot of fudging around just to get it to work on Vista. Plus the extra software you have to buy, the time to install it and configure it.")

I have some good DOS software that makes code for Amada turret punch
machines. Also my favorite chess software needs windows 95. These things are now history. I could use them , but on the platform that they are intended for.

Us poor consumers should not have to go to these extremes when a new version of Windows comes out.

Invest in Vista if you want, but be prepaired to be patient for some lenth of time untill the compatibilty issues are resolved. Use your XP computer With
XP software. Use Vista with vista compatibile software.

Try to buy a new laptop without vista and then ask me that question again.....

BINGO!

Yes, I know MSFT screwed up a little (maybe a lot) but the truth remains even IF you wanted to run 95 like you said, cause you have 95 software you can not.

So all I am saying, without the "driving the ferrari fast symbolism" is that until the hardware and software vendors catch up, this is a work around.

It WOULD be nice if vendors like these have software that will work with new operating systems as soon as they come out, but they do not. Does that mean I MUST WAIT until I buy a new computer, and NOT learn how to use Vista in the mean time?

I have been running Vista for about 4 months, and I have to say, I really like it. Ok, so I need to run VMware for Mastercam...for me, this is like loading another program, so I do not mind.

Just my "humble" opinion....you can keep running Windows 95, or better yet, IBM OS/2 is you are happy with them...

(not sure if Mastercam makes a version for the commodore-64, I will have to call them and ask).

:-)

Well CyborgCNC , when you put it that way, it works .
There is nothing wrong with your approach.

But just one upgrade to vista from XP is hosing most of us.

The problem should not have happened in the first place, thats what
is so frustrating.
