acme with grooving tool 2d or 3d?? help

I have version 8.1 and am trying to do an 5 inch acme thread 1 start with a grooving tool, is this possible with simple 2d or do i have to create a surface , if anyone has experience help pls.

Hi guys I thought i better send you a copy of what i have drawn, ive also done a surface of the acme but dont know how to machine it and if possible.

the tool i have to use is 8mm grooving tool.

You can rough it with the groove tool, but you will need to grind a tool in the acme form or get an insert made for cutting an acme thread. Getting an insert is the easiest way. I just use the insert and cut the whole thread without roughing it in though. Your tool path looks fine.

But i think i might have to write it manually as the tool will have to be a groove tool. Boss wants it that way.
If you have any other suggestions would be good.
Hey isnt it good that you can get help/advise whatever you wanna call it from around the world.
I just discovered it, before i use to bother my college teacher all the time but now that im not studying its better this way.

What your trying to do is going to be very tricky without the right tool. PM cadcam, Mike Mattera, or Matt Berube. They will know how to do this in MC.

A PM is a Private Message. You can do this from the User Control Panel of from the Buddy List that you can create.

The user control panel is labled User CP in the top menu
