I have a question can mastercam x level 3 do 4th axis rotary contouring and indexing work? I have a vertical mill with a rotary table and I am thinking of picking up a copy of Rotary contouring and indexing from Tips for manufacturing along with there other video but I am not sure if it will help me with level 3 I know mastercam has a complex 4th and 5th axis add-on which I don’t have. Thanks |

| Level 1 will do indexing for vertical and horizontal. Rotary contouring might have been moved up to the Level 3 + 5 axis add-on. You can also do some rotary contouring with Level1 by doing the flat layout toolpath and Mastercam can "wrap it" around the rotary axis. This is also good for barrel cams and cutting slots on the outside of a cylinder. So the only thing you need the 5X add-on for is 3D surface rotary machining. Not really that common. Since you can 3D surface machine one face, rotate and 3D surface machine another face, if you really need to to something like that. Mike Mattera
