New with software

Hello everybody -

I'll be using Mastercam X starting next week and I do not know when I will go for classes. I learned auto cad on my own, and I think the Boss expects the same with mastercamX. (already install in my computer)

Please, I need to prepare myself a bit reading and stuff...Do you guys know of any web sites or links for beginners of this software?

Thank you in advance.

George

Start with the documents that Mastercam provided. START>>ALL PROGRAMS>>MASTERCAM>>DOCUMENTATION>>GETTING STARTED GUIDE.

Buy Mike's (TipsforMfg.com) Cd, we bought all of them for the M.C. X, if nothing else just get the beginning cd it is worth it.

I had to learn S.W. on my own, but M.C. was a bit different then anything I had used, so it Really narrowed the learning curve for me.

Here are the BEST BOOKS fore Learning MC.

http://www.techedu.com/Mastercam.asp

And the BEST DVD Tutorials from Mike Mattera

http://www.tipsformanufacturing.com/

Personally I recommend both for Learning a new software. I read the books at home and use my Lap Top to watch the DVD's while learning MC at a few friends shops. Wish I had more time to learn though because there is soooo much.

Plus read a lot here and on the emastercam Support Form. http://www.emastercam.com/

Someday I'll be able to help others, but for now with two jobs it is a bit difficult to get time to learn what little I have.

Mike how much better and different is mcx than mc9 I started with version 6 and the changes have been subtle but I've also used feature cam pro-e and procam thinking about updating and I was wondering what you think is the best cam I kinda like afr on feature cam but I also like to control my surfacing.
Just wondering what you think. thanks

V9 vs X ..... It's all what you know, or are willing to learn. If you learn it, you know it. But if your shopping for new Cam packages you should definately look at EdgeCam. If you work with Solid Models, it really the only one that does a good job of maintaining associtavity to the original Solid Model.

So if you get a SolidWorks file, Create the toolpath and then they modify the model in SolidWorks, Edgecam detects the change automatically and updates the toolpath. It's VERY COOL.

Keep in mind it will do this with all the major CAD packages.

Go To http://www.tipsformfg.com or http://edgecam.com for more information.
