    Default Engraving...

I have a file that I've imported from Autocad into MCam X5 and for some reason unknown to me I can't select the entities for engraving... ???

    What am I missing here?

I've tried Area/Window select but nothing seems to work... is there a problem with Autocad fonts anf .DXF files with Mcam?

Try exploding the text in AutoCad, then save the dxf.

    or ( in Mastercam )

Convert Drafting to Lines / Arcs
    ( >>Edit >> Trim >> Convert Drafting to Lines & / or Arcs )........

Drafting is a term for most Dimensions, Notes, Witness lines, Arrows and Xhatch entities
--- these are NOT usable for machining unless converted

    Thanks for the posts.

    EDIT>TRIM/BREAK>BREAK DRAFTING INTO LINES
    worked.

So what's your experience when trying to run text like this is, it better to use a stick font or true type font? These are pretty small and for a control panel and I'm looking for something that will be legible... cutter COMP has issues and the text is illegible.

    Adam,

[EDIT] reducing the DOC fixed the clarity issue...

did you use a flat end mill not a ball or engraving tool. I would do contour and turn cutter comp to off and turn of lead in and lead out.

Yes I am using an engraving but. Adjusting the DOC helped considerably but I think the bit still doesn't match the detail of the geometry.

Gonna try making some changes to both and retesting.

Will do for cuttercomp and lead ins.

    Thanks for the reply.
