Hi,
Can anyone give me some tips on porting cylinder heads in mastercam X?
Looking for some help in surfacing the scaned ports, and also creating the multiaxis toolpaths.

Well this not something easy to explane on line but wht do you have for scanned data. did you get point clouds or Slpine data to start with. if point data you need to create splines from there and also are the offseted for the probe you used.
Have you done any porting before and do you do any 5 axis at this time?

I have some point cloud. We currently surface and do the tool paths in ProE. Looking for an easier/better alternative.

I guess easer in what way the tool paths or the surface creation from the points.
PS welcome back to the forum 10months later. Hope all has been well.

In 20 words or less?
This is not something that is easy to explain. And it seems like you don't have any experience with Mastercam at all. You should at least get some basic understanding of the 3X toolpaths before you jump into the 5X toolpaths. Do you have a Mastercam post for your 5X machine?
I would suggest spending some one-on-one time with your local dealer to go over what you want to do and what you have to do it with. I'm sure everyone here will be glad to help as they can... but your trying to learn how to swim by diving into the deep end of the pool.
Go Thru some of the tutorials/Sample parts included with the system. You can get a lot from those to start with.

Im looking for an easier option in creating the surfaces from point cloud and a better option for creating toolpaths. Pro/E does a pretty good job with 5X porting but I have heard and seen that Mastercam does a great job.
You are correct, I have not used Mastercam alot but have alot of 3X and 5X Pro/E knowledge.
Thanks
No I don't have a post for our 5X machine. Mazak Integrex 300IV matrix and E410 Fusion if anyone have one..
Thanks
Will need to contact your dealer and have them go through IN-HOUSE solution for a good one. It is not free, but why have such an expensive machine sitting, by not paying for a good post that will do what you want???
We have Pro/E posts for all of our machines.. Just no 5X mastercam posts.
I am getting trainned on CNC porting heads with a Master Cam dealer right now. It's a pretty indepth process, and not something that is easy to do.
If you have point cloud data, take the data to your local MC dealer and have them help you out. The MC dealer that is trainning me, has done cnc head porting for a long time, and has the post down, we also use a custom reverse post to drive a probe to grab the data, and send it back to master cam, model the data, then generate a 5 axis tool path.
Good luck.
