In the settings, look for Import STL as mesh.
That will make it a solid.
You might have to play with the 'stitching' settings to make it into a 'water tight' solid
I was sent a .STL file and I'm doing the machining great off it. I want to project text and art to it now, but I can't get to select a solid surface, and the 3d won't allow it. How do I make parts of the model into surfaces?
Thanks

MasterCam since V6.12a. Gcode since 1983.
The nose you punch today may belong to the butt you have to kiss tomorrow.
It will not take an STL and make it a solid as you will not be able select faces and so on. it is just handled better as a mesh when doing surface paths.
