    Default Mastercam Lathe Help

I will most likely be posting a lot here, since I know so little. I have a Mastercam question. I know very little and I'm just getting into things. I run a Puma 230 MS Lathe, with a Fanuc Series 18i-T controller. Now my question is a silly one, but what machine definition do I enter in Mastercam?

Fanuc controller .... means you need a Fanuc post
2 axis post is for a basic turning only type machine

You have a C axis, but no Y
suggest you look for a 4-axis generic post with C axis...... you would then disable the Y axis component, so you don't get any unusable code.
    - not sure about programming the transfer capabilities, but I think the generic post has it

Some mods may be required to suit your specific machine

Thank you very much for the response.
    - How would I disable the Y axis? (or isn't this hard to do?)
    - Regarding the mods, where do I find those?

In Mastercam, You setup a CNC machine, then attach a Control file (.CONTROL), and a post (.PST)
    - then when you are creating toolpaths, you just need to start by selecting the machine that the operations are to run on
( if you wanted to change to a different machine, it is simple to re-select a machine & re-post to get code )

To delete a component on a machine, (after selecting your desired MD, Control, & PST files) you go
    >>settings (pull-down), Edit Machine config (open a new dialog box) , Edit Control file ( screen looking icon on toolbar ), toolbar icon that looks like origin axes, this shows what addresses your machine has ie XZCY......delete the Y component, accept & save

post code to do certain movements, & carefully run in the machine
-what you need to add / change / delete are the mods required to be done to the post

If editing a post, save & check the NC output often. It is very easy to mistype something, which could make your post not work, finding that error again can take time
( hint..... work in small sections, don't do a lot of editing in one burst )

There should be generic CNC machines with your installation, try them, I think the Fanuc_Lathe_Generic _4 axis.LMD file is what you should look for ( in the CNC Machine directory )

it does mater what version you of Mastercam. but if it is X9 use this Machine def. LATHE C-AXIS SLANT BED.LMD-9 this does not have Yaxis enabled.

(Note: The opinions expressed in this post are my own and are not necessarily those of CNCzone and its management)
