Angry Mcam9 Slow In New Laptop

Hi All,
Just Purchased Brand New Dell Inspiron E1705 Notebook Comp.(w/2 Gig. Memory).i Installed Mastercam Ver.9 In Laptop(also Installed Norton 2007 Systemworks + Autocad 2004).
I Start Programming A New Job,fairly Easy,on Mcam9.i Go To Save The File And It Literally Takes 3 Min.to Save It.i Tried The Same File On A Desktop At Work And It Took 5 Sec.
Something Is Very, very Wrong.i Believe The Problem Exists With Mcam9.all The Other Programs On The Comp. Appear To Be Working
Fast(like A Comp. W/2 Gig. Mem. Should!).
Any Suggestions?

I know very little about laptops... but I notice that yours has 3 video card options.

Integrated, ATI, or Nvidia...

Which did you purchase ?

I wonder if the integrated graphics could be slowing you down ?

Just a guess...

HI,MATT
I BELIEVE THE VIDEO IS INTEGRATED(NOT SURE HOW TO CHECK THAT).
I STILL FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT I WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO USE MASTERCAM EVEN IF I DO HAVE INTEGRATED GRAPHICS.THERE MUST BE
SOME KIND OF SETTING OR SOMETHING IN MASTERCAM.
THIS IS THE 1ST TIME I'VE EVER INSTALLED MASTERCAM ON A LAPTOP.

Edit your drive properties to turn OFF write caching.

It could be many things. Norton 2007 will slow down the best systems. As my Norton 2006 expires soon I'll be trying Spy Sweepers new Anti-Virus.

What Processor, are you Running on your Lap Top?
How much RAM do you have installed?
Also check the amount of Graphics RAM that you have. I've heard weird stuff about CAD/CAM that uses OpenGL Graphics.

If you want a Bang for the Buck, get DELL's M65 or M90. These PC (Lap Tops) are made for CAD/CAM.

hi toby,
the processor is 1.73 gig(intel duo core processors).
the comp. has 2 gig. memory.
i believe it has 256 integrated video.
i've heard that's not great for cad/cam,but i was told having 2 gig memory would help the video.
as far as norton2007,you might be right saying that could be the problem, but i personnally don't think so(i say this only because i don't see any slowdown in any of the other programs.i also have autocad 2004 and i save .dwg and .dxf files within a matter of seconds.but at the same token,i am not computer expert.i could be wrong).
thanks,
vito lore

I do know that some files take longer to save than others. It all depends on how big the file is. A good example would be that BobCAD takes a while to save most of the Solid Models that I make with it. Masterecam not only saves the drawing or model but it also saves the NCI file. Depending on how big your CNC file is can also slow things down.

Shared Graphics RAM is a No No with CAD/CAM. The extra RAM Memory you have helps only a little.

If you go to your Task Manager there will be at least 12 to 16 programs running that are linked to Norton Systems. That is way too much.

A Dell Precision WorkStation is what you really need to run MC.

As little as I know about computers...... I've been told not expect the same performance out of a laptop as you get from a desktop computer. I was told it's something to do with bus routing. Up here in the hills of Colorado, we don't have bus service anyway..........

Dugg, maybe you should try the Ski Lift LOL, and be aware that there are Lap Tops that are 5 Times Faster than Desk Tops. It all depends what you want to spend $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.
