I've been using Mastercam for 20 years. Personally I think X2 is crap. Seems like they wanted to try to copy Catia. I have X2 but I still prefer 9

Wow, thats pretty harsh. I have been using MCX and if I go back to V9 or V8 I feel total lost. I dont even have V9 on my comp anymore, jumped in and never looked back. To each his own I guess, this is the direction that Mastercam is going. If you dont like it then stay with V9, but they will not support the older versions as newer versions are released.

Chronic 420,

If you prefer V9, you're not trying hard enough. There is no comparison between 9 and the awesome flexibility and customization X / X2 have brought to the table. It sounds like you have your mind made up anyway but you're only cheating yourself.

Rickyt,

I have been beta testing for X2 in my spare time since June and now with the release of X2 my shop is jumping in with both feet. I am really happy so far...

There are some things that have been grating on my nerves for a while that have now been resolved and there are some cool new toys as well. I don't even have MR2 on my PC anymore... X2 is all I need.

I'm a programmer and as far as being able to put out good codes 9 has worked better for our shop. Also when I had problems with X the dealer would tell me I had to do it in 9 then convert to X. Our shop is a job shop and with the many different parts & short turn around so I don't get a lot of time. Maybe if we had better Mastercam support in our area I would think differently

Well it seems reasonable for you to be upset if you got lousy support. There are definitely some resellers who don't put out any effort. You can tell who the best ones are... They are the ones you see on this forum and on www.emastercam.com helping everybody out. I am fortunate enough in my area to have overlapping reseller coverage. One was slacking so we swapped.

I bet even a lousy reseller now has enough experience with the "X" interface to give better advice than "do it in 9 instead"...

The other thing I can say is that while 9 to X is a HUGE shock and difficult to get used to at first, X2 and most likely future releases are not going to be nearly as difficult to grasp.

Hi Jay. Long time no see. How ya been? I haven't used X much yet because I've way too busy to stop down and learn my way around X's new functionality. Now that X2 is being released I'm going to get on the training wagon and get up to speed. I understand the 5 axis toolpaths are vastly improved. I can't wait to dig into the latest version. I'm going to the user's seminar at Sportsman's in a couple of weeks. I hope to see you there.

Richard

Chronic 420

I think maybe you tried the first release of X and then gave up.
Don't blame you if that is the case, because there were a lot of problems!!!
They have been fixed now and X2 is great.
I agree with rickyt in that I cannot go back to 9 anymore. At first it doesn't seen rational, but after a week with X, I hated 9 (used to love 9 too!!!), even with all the problems the first release of X had.
