Graphic cards and driver are the main reason for crashing regardless of the software being used

Also, if you are still using the original release of MCX that could be a problem. It was pretty bug ridden. Especially using backplot.

I could not use the first release of mastrcam x due to the many, many errors, if i was a beta tester for mastercam i would be totally ashamed of myself. when mr1 was released, as a part of the attempted fix they sent me the cd to load instead of using the download version, but the crashing still occurs, even when mastercam is minimized it crashes. when dealing with mastercam they seem like they can not believe that there could be problems with there product. thanks to all who have replied

Video cards are the biggest source of problems. Download the latest drivers for the card. BTW what card do you have? What OS are you running? How much memory do you have?

If you have am MR1 CD, I would uninstall what you have now (Backup all your files and posts first). Delete all that's left in the Mcamx folder.

Re install it into the standard folder, c:\mcamx

Not only is graphic's cards a common problem for these types of software, but the type of graphic's card. I think the geforce cards are more aimed at gaming, you might want to look at something like a Quatro from Nvidia [ I'm running one on my work comp and its great] Most software companies list tested and recommended cards, see if yours is on the list.
There is a large difference in rendering and gaming cards and if you think gaming cards are spendy wait till you price out an ATI V7100 FIREGL.
I've got the V5100 at home and it was bad enough. Last time I checked ATI is the only people producing rendering cards for PCI-Xpress 16. Nvidia has 8xAGP stuff, and may have a PCI one.. its been a while since I looked for them..

Not a masterCam user, just another perspective..

Talking

I have also had problems with MX and it is just bugs. They offer secondary programs that ride on top of the MasterCam Platform and do not attach them to MX yet. If you have mastercam art or quickpart they still supply version 9 because of the MX bugs. T hey will fix it but it just takes time.

If it is a graphics card issue would it still crash when minimized?

ya know, I really couldn't say. It might, sometimes the only way to figure out these issues is to use step by step ellimination. Is there other programs running in the background when it crashes? I found that when I was using Solidworks 2004, autocad would crash it sometimes.. so I could only run one at a time. They seem to have fixed this issue for now so.. things like that can effect it. Do you have a mastercam approved graphics card?

Jerry [not a MasterCam user, But I like all things CAD/CAM ]
