Mastercam is great for all 2d , some 3d. if your 3d is pretty
complex you may want to consider veri-cut , predator or
some other kind of simulation software.

    how well

For most stuff (pretty technical "huh") its more than enough.
Some of the 3d work i've done is pretty involved and it requires
something with a little more power. Other wise no need to
    spend the extra.

I liked using MasterCam, once you learn the basics, it get's easy'er. The simulation or NC verify is a very powerfull tool.

    I love using Mastercam.
It was a big learning curve, and i am still learning.
At first i hated it...(having used other software) but once i got
comfortable with it,there was no turning back!
I think the verify works great.
Can't wait till i recieve 9.1 from our reseller.

I've used several other CAM packages over the years and I'm fairly new to Mastercam (about 1 1/2 years) and the more I use it the more I like it. No formal training, just learned from books and asking questions. The verify seems to work pretty good as far as I can tell from my limited use.

A few years back I was using Unigraphics with VeriCut and that was awesome. You could trust everything.

    Hi Estop,
This must be done by using (2) seperate programs right?
And is if so,is it any time consuming for having to describe all the tools,stock,ect... in the vericut?
Where as,in the mastercam verify,it knows all the tools,ect...right
from the beginning as you write the toolpaths.

Also, did you get formal training using the unigraphics?
I have heard that this is a really hard prog. to learn.

Yes, Unigraphics and VeriCut were 2 seperate programs but once VeriCut was setup correctly (by our systems guru) they worked seamlessly together. You really didn't have to do any additional work to run VeriCut. All the info it needed was improted from the UG .CLS files.

I got 40 hours of training on the CAD and Solids portion and 40 hours on the CAM side. Alot of the material was redundant and was paced for the novice. Most of what was taught could have been learned in less than 1/2 that time, under optimum conditions. But it was a very good training program.

along with a much faster verify in the new v9.1, it also comes packaged with a trial version of Metacut Utilities, a decent g-code (or nci) verify utility. I've had the full version of Metacut for a few months now and I like it. I don't think yhou can beat the price.

The Meta-cut is a nice tool.
So you know it only supports at this time 3axis.

Bill and his brother are real nice people any support needed they are there for you.
