machine def and control def question

when i use the menu and select machine definition and then control definition i do not get a choice to edit operation defaults. when i select control definition directly from the menu, i do get the option of editing operation defaults. am i missing something or is this a bug?

I really do not understand the question. Then you select Machine Type and then try to edit in the Operation Manager, you are limited. Then you open a Machine Definition in the Machine Definition Manager you have much more control of what can be edited.

Where are you trying to open the Machine Definition for editing?

Do you have a valid control definition selected (as indicated in attached screen shot)?

Must be a bug then. I do not have any other ideas about it.

Tx, your screenshots are for X3 only ( I've never used X3, but all the other X versions never had that tab in the control edit area )
but, you are showing the correct way to do permanent alterations to the CNC Machine & Control files

using the "Edit" control selection without going into the MMD file will only create alterations for that mastercam session file only. ie deleting the 4th axis to stop having the A ( or B ) address being output to the NC file
-- if you reload the CNC machine, then any mods are then lost .

access to the Operation Defaults is on the "Files" page of the Operation manager
    or
you can just open the .DEFAULT file with mastercam ( D-click on that file --> Open with )
( you may have to "Save as" to have it save with the correct extension )

only thing i can come up with is that it is a bug. when i reload the machine and control def all edits stick. i will just enter the control def directly and not enter the control def from the machine def.

and I stated it only applies to X3

Joe is using X5 and it is NOT found in the CONTROL dialog area. It is not a bug.

Probably why X3 was such a really unstable version ( too many changes which introduced too many bugs, one being the tab for the DEFAULTS in the CONTROL file).

X3 didn't last long at all before X4 was released. One of the reasons why I refused to install it.
I'm always tentative in installing the 1st release of a new versions, I wait & see how it behaves for all the other main users before jumping onboard.
