    filling holes on surfaces

i work mostly with solids rather than surfaces, using x4 if i fill holes on a solid face with surfaces- i am unable to use them as drive surfaces on parallel surface toolpaths- i.e. i can still only use the solid surface-is there a solution to this??

Create surfaces from solid on a new layer.

    This may also help,

if you create surfaces from the solid, that you "Remove boundary" instead of "Fill holes"
    - this modifies the original surface instead of creating additional surfaces for selection

When you are doing the surface paths pick the surfaces first then set to pick your sold faces and it will work just fine.

We work with solids too and sometimes need to add surface on different layers so you can switch them on and off for different machining strategies. The way to do it is when selecting the entities to act as drive surfaces. You are probably just clicking on the solid to act as a drive. If you click all on the button bar this will bring up a window to select what you want to select. Click all entities "i think it's called" and this will select all solids and surfaces on the switched on layers. Hope that helps.
