    Neutral BB- Mastercam

    Hey all,

I've searched 20+ pages with absolutely zero luck on a hit, so here is this thread.

I had to make a custom boring bar because I can't find a neutral bar ANYWHERE. Easy enough to make.

My problem lies with MastercamX6 Lathe... I can't seem to get MCX6L to create the bar so I can store it into my library- or even program it.

It's essentially a neutral boring bar with a button insert (Sandvik RCGX 12 04 M0-AL). I imported the solid model for it, I tried to create the geo in MCX6L and nothing seems to work.

Dumb question. You said neutral. Do you mean as in a groove tool that can cut with both sides? If so, why not use/modify a grooving tool model?

you can load it on parasolid if you wish or you could just select one of the button inserts on the regular LATHE_INCH.LIC insert Library on Mastercam and it would automatically pull up a boring bar for it.

I tried selecting the RNG45 insert as it is the closest to yours. Without having look at the BBar you are trying to use, MC is giving me 2 choices that should work with that kind of insert.

Another option is to use a Groove insert with full rad as txcncman described.

You can go from there and modify accordingly.

Let us know how it works for you.

    I got it figured out.

Stupid me was trying to create a BB when all I had to do was create a general turning tool and change the cut/plunge directions.

The bar is going to be used to cut the face of a bore (back side of a wheel spoke).
