    help programming these pockets

the plan is to hold the shaft in a manual indexer, machine the 1st pocket, then index 120 degree, machine the second and then the third. Tolerance is +/- .010 so they can live with some radius'. this is giving me a headache

Glad you got it worked out on your own because your STP model imported into MasterCam X3 was messed up. What did you use to make your model?

I did an x-form project and used the geometry to make a 2d pocket to rough, then used surface rough and surface finish parallel for the 3-d surfaces and 2d contour tool path for the left-wall.

Is there a better way? I'm sure there is but this is just a one-off for now and it got the job done.

to get the pocket profile try Silhouette Boundry to make what you need quick and fast.

i tried that but don't see how that will be quick and easy because is takes the boundaries from more then one pocket which isn't accurate. Guessing I would have to cut the part in half before using silhouette boundary to get an accurate 2d pocket profile??? Which makes using x-form > project just as easy..or easier?

It would help if you only pick what you want. I do not have RAR software to open your file so I can not see what you have to show you how easy the tool is and you don't have to do a clean up of dups and over lapping when using the Project as the old squash.

I am not sure why you are asking about these as I see him asking for a pocket profile. but them maybe I could be wrong. ether way I do not see and issue to get a profile fast and creat a surface pocket of if going with what I have a 2d pocket to.

txcncman did you get my MSG?
