moving existing part programs to new machine

have a bunch of part programs that were created for vertical machines. want to move them to a horizontal machine. is exporting all the machining operations with geometry and then importing them to the file that contains the fixture and parts located on the fixture the best approach to use? thinking of using solidworks to setup all the parts on the fixture because i believe that it will be faster to do it this way. anyone have any experience doing this?

I think you are focusing on visual reference and representation. Is that correct?

If the parts are already in MasterCam, I would just create a new Machine Group and copy all of the previous Toolpath Groups to the new Machine Group and then modify as needed. I do not rely on how it looks nearly as much as does it make good G-code.

you are correct. the parts are in separate files and i want to combine them into one big file. simulation is so i can check tool paths against clamps, vises, fixtures. these are proven programs that i hope to run unattended.

I guess the process would be:

Save your MasterCam file for the vertical machine to a new file name.
In Operation Manager under Machine Group > Properties > Files >Machine - Tool Path Copy > Replace, select the new machine.
Then under File > File Merge/Pattern, add/import the other solids needed.
Then correct any errors, move geometry and WCS', and create new solids as needed.
    Verify.
