2D chamfer contouring on a imported 3D model error

Hey all, my professor has been as stumped as I am as to why my chamfers on my part are all producing horrible results. I am trying to machine the .09" 45 deg. chamfer around the perimeter of the top of the part, as you can see here:

Now, I am picking the upper perimeter of the large chamfer above as my chain.

The settings I am using are as follows:

Everything is set up as properly as I can guess for a 90 deg. tip 1/2" chamfer tool, but when I backplot I get this:

Any ideas? I'm at my wits end :/.

    Thanks!

It looks to me like it's putting a .09 chamfer on the geometry you selected. Change the chamfer parameter to 0 and add .090 to the tip offset.
When I've done it, I've created the geometry for no chamfer by translating the lower edge up to the top surface and using that for the geometry chain.

I've tried translating the geometry from the bottom surface to the top plane but I still get the same error. As for setting the chamfer to 0, mastercam does not allow you to do that.

    :/

That's how you do it actually, like there's no chamfer.

If you're having trouble moving/creating geometry you can just suppress the chamfer feature then chain the edge to be chamfered.

Another thought, what's your Depth in Linking Parameters page?

Set it 0 absolute & try again before anything else, I suspect it's something else at present.

Wrong profile actually selected, you need to select the profile that would form the sharp edge before the chamfer or radius is created . This is a must for 3D Chamfers
    ----- or ----
select the profile on the vertical wall AND set your Depths to be from the top of the chamfer. This is OK for a 2D Chamfer

Everything is set up as properly as I can guess for a 90 deg. tip 1/2" chamfer tool,
To get your settings to work correctly, you need to OFFSET the profile to where it should be ( ie XY Offset = 0.090" )

PS --- no tool tends to cut to a zero diameter, you may need to adjust the base diameter to get it to cut spot-on size
