    Mcam X4 Pissed Off

Just purchased X4 thinking it may be a little more user friendly than MC9. BOY WAS I WRONG. The biggest waste of a program I've ever come across. I will have to say that if you know what you are doing, the toolpaths are great, but dealing with the 3D generation and manipulation is terrible!

Sure, they finally went to the "windows" theme, but it's a theme at best. It's a terrible interface. Poor graphics, poor implementation. Do they have their machinists programing the software?

Two thumbs down on mastercamX4. Rhino is much better, both for design and toolpath gen, and those guys are a hell of alot more modest.

You just purchased X4 , really how is that as no one is selling X4 as Mastercam is at X6. Sorry you do not like it it. but for designing and making guitars X series of MC sure made it easier as I started doing it in V9 and it was allot harder for sure.
PS Rhino is not a Cad-Cam software it is a Cad software.

Just a couple of thoughts for you.

Your recent "purchase" of MasterCam X4 is dubious at best. No legitimate MasterCam distributors would make this sell. By agreement, end users are not to resell their software.

Sorry that you had difficulty with the learning curve on new software. I have used MasterCam 9 and now MasterCam X3. I did note many improvements in toolpath options in X3 over 9. Other than that, 9 was menu driven, X is GUI driven. If I remember my experience with Rhino correctly, your complaint about manipulations revolve around the ability in Rhino to click and drag NURBS around. This is actually a poor method for creating solids in that it is even easier to have non-congruent edges, which can be a huge problem once you get to the CAM part.

Yes, Rhino does have plug-ins to generate G-code. But Rhino was never intended to be CAD/CAM.

    Just purchased bootleg X4 eh?

If you are legit, and are going from V9 to X (anything) then there is a learning curve to get used to the icon based X platform...but once you do, you will (as pretty much the rest of us do) love it.

Mcam is SIMPLE to get perfect code from. SIMPLE to draw if need be. I find it simple to model in, and I can pretty much post my program, not even look at it, and hit the big green button on the machine and get a good part.

As far as "finally went to the "windows" theme"...um...X has been out for what...7 years?

Settle down, at least you are only out 50 bucks for your bootleg copy.

I was in the same boat as you when i first learned mastercam in school, but mastercam is very popular meaning that you can find help easy.

The toolpaths are very powerful and you can control everything about the path.

Mastercam can indeed be buggy at times, but it's easy to ignore that given the quality of the posts and control over code. The mastercam forum may the wrong place to complain...
