    surface axis substitution

    Hello all
    how do i for a simple example write my name around a 4" dia sphere
    i have purchased all the bells and whistles to do it in mastercam but,
    my less than satisfactory local rep cant make it happen?

    any help is greatly appreciated

    do a 2d tool path and then use a surface project tool path onto the sphere

    anything projected around the horizon of the sphere is distorted

    Do you have 4th axis capabilities? That would take care of the distortion.

    But i have little experience with 5th
    doing this on a cylinder is too easy, but when i use a sphere, kaput!

    The standard surfacing operations are only planar( ie the "Surface Rough" or "Surface Finish" operations ) This could be termed as 3+1 machining ( 3 axis with 4th being a positioning axis only )

    You have to use the "Multiaxis" toolpath strategies to be able to do full 4 or 5 axis machining

    ack multiaxis? now im screwed, have zero experience with that
    i have purchased the full set of tut's from mastercam, and didnt see what i need in any of them
