I have been running Mastercam since v7 and have never has this particular scenario come up. I have Solidworks 2008 and X5. Everytime i open a .slprt file it opens by accessing it thru Solidworks. Takes longer than direct thru Mastercam. Can I stop this ? It's bad enough I have to access them thru a server in another state let alone go through solidworks.
What am i missing?
You can change the properties of that file type , ie "open with"
double L-click on the file opens it using the default .EXE file
to point to another application to use
--> open "My Computor", top line "Tools", ten "Folder Options"
--> select the "File Types" tab and search for the .sldprt extension
--> hit "Change" button, & find the Mastercam X5 application, or browse for the Mastercam.EXE executable ( check the "always use" mark )
This makes the PC open that file type with that application
You can do the same with .TXT or .NC files that you want opened with Cimco or Mastercam editor, just re-point to the desired .EXE file
( HINT..... test it first before making it permanent...un-check the "always use" to test )
It's not actually opening up Solidworks, but it says "please wait-connnecting to Solidworks " in the lower left corner on the mx5 screen. So even when i designate X4 or X5 as the program to open .sldprt I still get this.....and then eventually the file opens in mx. Just never saw any of the translaters for mx do this whether it was .stp, .iges, .sldprt, .dwg, etc.
I'm in a new plant, new system, etc. trying to figure out someone elses system that was brought in from out of state. There is no one else here that knows anything about this cnc or any software used with it.
Heh, heh, heh......thanx man. I actually remeber this now that u said it. I re installed mx5 and forgot to set it in config.Whoever used this before me had it turned on. Gawd, I hate brainfarts !!
