This has been bothering me for a while & I can't figure it out. MasterCam x3 lathe. I've already faced off the part at Z+.010. I'm now roughing the OD with an MCLNL, .047 TNR. In both the following examples I have selected 'Use Stock for Outer Boundary'. With entry amount set at .050 & lead in/out deselected the tool : Rapids to .110 Rapids to .070 Feeds to .010 then feeds the length of the cut. With entry amount set at 0.0 & lead in/out selected with Entry Vector set at 180 & a length of .050 the tool: Rapids to .110 Rapids to .070 Feeds to .020 Feeds to .010 then feeds the length of the cut. So what's with the extra moves? All I want to do is rapid to .060 & then feed the length of the cut. Last edited by Technical Ted; 06-18-2011 at 10:05 PM. |

| I don't remember exactly how X3 was set-up, but I think it's the same as X5 - there is a field called "approach" that adds extra distance to the front. I leave it at zero, or else it adds extra steps like you're seeing. |

| On the Stock Setup tab there are two settings for tool clearance. Rapid moves seems to have a default setting of .030 & Entry/Exit is at .015. The smallest amount that can be entered for Rapid Moves is .002 & Entry/Exit is .001. I don't think these are the settings that are causing the extra moves. |
