XFX ATI Radeon HD 5870 with MasterCam?

I have a new i7 pc that has a Quadro FX 380 card now . It runs Mastercam pretty slow in verify. Will a XFX ATI Radeon HD 5870 video card work with Mastercam and SolidWorks? I can get one for $60. I want to play games and use for 3D solids and high speed surfacing tool paths. I just don't want to pay the $800 to $2000 for a high end or mid range Quadro FX card that won't play the games as good. $60 to $1000 is a big difference. Why are the Quadro FX cards such a cash cow?

Dont know much about video cards but to me it sounds like something else might be going on. I have a 3 year old laptop running xp. I dont have any troubles. $700 retail running the old stock video card. It has never been on line though. Dedicated to my mill and only running necessary background stuff.

Im not running any high end video card and dont have much trouble. Mastercam requires a lot of memory to run. I would turn off as many of the operations running on the background of the computer as possible. If able I would also add more memory to help speed things up.
