Hello I'm just learning how to mill using a SuperMax 3 Axis and also a John Ford 3 axis both using fanuc 0m controllers I have more computer time then machine time and would like to know... can you surf a surface with either of these machines? and if so how would you program mastercam (x4) to do so? can it only be done using 5 axis programming? i have not found much information on the subject or maybe i'm looking for it using the wrong keywords. basically if i wanted to create a contoured surface using a 3 axis mill is it possible? |

| I'll assume that since you posted this in the Mastercam forum that you have access to it. Yes of course you can mill contoured surfaces, depending of course on the machines capability to move all 3 axis' simultaneously - which shouldn't be a problem with the 0m control. The Johnford you mention should have atleast the 0m-D series control, and if so it should definitely be able to contour mill. It is then up to what you program it to do from Mastercam... |
