    Quick Question

    Hello,

I just upgraded to MasterCam X5 level 3 and solids for my home shop, my question is can I use the new solids high speed toolpaths with my 1995 Haas VF-1? I guess I am confuseing myself with the HSM options on newer machines. I hope I can use these new paths they look great. Thank you for all your help.

I would think you could. It shouldn't make much of a difference how old your machine is, the new toolpath programs just output a toolpath that's supposed to have more efficient motion.

My shop is all Haas. I don't seem to have any problems except that at high feed rates the older machines have a "jerky" motion. I just lower the feed rate so that the machine will move smoothly, but use the same tool paths.
    WANNA GO FASTER

You can use them , just because they say high speed doesn't mean you have to use the at high cutting speeds. they are efficient tool paths at getting the tool in and out of the cuts and also the strategy it use's to make the path.

As for the Jerky motion you are seeing is that you have a older Haas with no high speed look ahead so the machine liner ways can not keep up with all the small motion moves and it starves for data what you are seeing it the machine trying to stop and read each line and execute the move. you should be safe for programs that have small movements like surfacing at between 60 and 80 ipm above this you will see the jerky moves. What year is your machine as Hass has offered for years a 200 hr trial of the high speed option in allot of there controls it is just a parameter setting switch from T to 1. I use these paths all the time with newer and older machines. the one thing you have to know is that make bigger code programs but if you have the Memory or are DNCing then go for it.
