    Open X5

New to Mastercam. I was just wondering if you should be able to open a MC X5 file in MC X3? Cheers and thanking you in advanced for your support in this matter.

No. But when you go to save a file from X5 and want to open with a previous version, in the save window you will see an option button and you can select the version type to save as. However it will save geometry only, not the toolpaths.

Sry another quick question. Is there a way of telling which level of file it is? Like a MC X thru to MC X5 file?

Not that I know of. Usually I realize it when I try to open the file and it says the file was created with a newer version of Mastercam. What I have done in the past when saving a file is to add X5, X4, or X3 to the file name to keep track of what is what.

Right click on the file --> Properties --> Descriptor

X5 now saves a file with the .MCX-5 extension

yeah - like superman said, the X5 files are obvious because of the extention.

For older files, do like he said - right click and hit properties, then descriptor. That will show you what version the file was saved at.

It is so awesome that X4 cannot open X5, or Solidworks 2010 cannot open 2011 or...etc....
